Had a look at their site they dont let the truth get in the way of a good story (Historically made in Glasgow, these are now made in Australia.) They have been made in Australia since their introduction in 1940 (and maybe earlier) and are still made today in limited numbers.
@Graham P Yes, I saw that rather muddled and incorrect “history” of the Austramax some time ago. I was going to send them a note, but other things got in the way. I should get around to doing it! Cheers Tony

G'day scl, Austramax are a good lantern and perform well. I don't expect you to be disappointed when they arrive.
just received them but that red plastic release knob is a little scary, any chance of finding a metal replacement.
Those plastic pressure release knobs are not the nicest but I have one that I have been using for some time without any problems. You have to be careful to not use too much force when tightening. A metal replacement would be nice, but I suspect it would have to be made. Btw, I assume these are new lanterns so what colour are the pump knob and the cleaning wheel?
@scl I also have a couple of newish Austramax with the plastic release valve. Not my aesthetic, but I’ve had no problems. Cheers Tony
