    This is the lantern I am using this evening. I cleaned it up a bit but everything is original, including a vintage T66 generator and a steel burner cap.

    Phil, that lantern is working nicely.
    I assume the mantle is Peerless but out of curiosity will you tell me which one?

    Hi Martin, thanks. It is a Lancaster Lanterns branded thorium 24A made by Peerless. It is actually a fraction bigger than needed but because there is no spirit cup you can get away with it, and the lantern fills it out well.

    Hi Peter, thanks for the compliment. I traded it from a guy for a decent working 1950's Canadian 249. Had to replace the fuel-air tube which was modified for kerosene and fit a globe, generator and burner cap. Luckily I had some late 1940's NOS parts. The lamp has the normal wear 'n tear and there is very little nickel left on the burner cage but the fount still has a reasonable amount of paint, so I just cleaned it up as best I could. It is burning distillate of unleaded gasoline, which is probably very close to 1940's white gas.

    @AussiePete

    The 242B is a gasoline lantern, so we Aussies will burn Shellite in it.

    Cheers

    Tony
