Brought this today for my Coleman 220 or my 228 lantern. Few questions, dose the colour really deter insects at night compared to normal clear globes. Second question - is this genuine & quite old, or quite common. Im personally guessing coleman never brought out these coloured globes and this was a stained Purex globe that someone sent off ? Has anyone seen with their own eyes how much light this colour gives off compared to a clear globe. Regards Darren
That yellow does not look consistent enough to be original. Not an expert, just opinion. There was a test of different globes on the Coleman Collectors Forum and yellow was one of them. They did sell yellow light bulbs here in the States for the same purpose, never tried one. The ones I've seen have white lettering that is very pronounced white, that looks like it was painted over. @Kiwiboy00 As for deterring insects, the trick is to have two lanterns, one with a clear glass which you would place a little way from your camp, the other - with yellow glass - you would use at your camp next to your tent, campfire or whatever. Most insects navigate by the light of the moon so will naturally head towards the brighter light leaving you to bask in an insect free amber glow. Henry.
