I have a Coleman 249 Scout made in Australia and it is missing the date of manufacture on the tank and I was wondering if there was a time where Australian made lamps were not stamped with the date or if this particular lamp is an oddity

    Hi Liam

    Nice looking lantern.

Hope you find out the date.

    @Liam C

I’ve not seen an undated Australian-made Coleman lantern.

Have you checked the bottom of the tank? (I’ve never seen an Aussie Coleman stamped there either). The dates should be from 1950 to about 12/1960.

Can you post photos of the other stampings on the tank and collar?

Someone has changed the fuel control wheel it seems.

    Cheers

    Tony

    Hi Tony

    Thanks for the reply

The bottom of the tank is unstamped

These are the only other stampings on the lantern:

The original fuel control wheel appears to have been broken off but it wasn't the worst "fix" on the lantern when i got it as someones solution to the o ring in the filler cap needing replacement was to glue it shut which required some persuasion from some vice grips to come free

Also would you know how to unstick the valve at the bottom of the pump without removing it as it is stuck on both this lamp and my sport light

The Coleman stamp seems to be placed much higher than usually seen on the fount - perhaps this higher placement meant that the month and year stamps "missed" the tank?

Is it stuck open or closed ? The small brass ball in the NRV is probably gummed-up with varnish-like fuel residue causing it to stick. Unscrew the needle and take it out then pour some thinners (acetone is good) down the pump tube and let it soak overnight, put the pump piston back in and see if you can force some thinners through the valve to help things along. If it's really gummed-up, you may need to let it soak for a couple of days.

    Henry.

Because you didn't press either 'Thumbnail' or, preferably, 'Full Size' in the File Uploader - so they stay as attachments only. Hope that helps...

That is a "fault" he did only this last time, David.
But the reason they didn't work at the earlier occasions was because they were hosted at a 3rd party image provider. They just came up as large, red X.
I uploaded them correctly to the site yesterday, and since then they did show as they should.
These last are just duplicates of the previous, so I will remove them and these last posts when Liam has read what's said here.
(He did apparently not read my PT yesterday explaining our policy about 3rd party hosted images, hence why I will leave this for a while)
