Colmax 222 came with spare nipple and cleaning wire spanner, Cat brand (Hong Kong) and instructions that I ahve posted posted on the reference library. Lantern is a bit bent but should straighten up ok with a bit of effort.
Great find. Is that a Coleman product equivalent of a Petromax 821/200cp? If it is, was it meant to be a direct competition to the Petromax? Or was it made in collaboration with Ehrich und Graetz of Germany?
Hi @MYN , the Colmax series were made to be a direct competitor to the Pmax and clones in the Asian market. Coleman was well known for its white gas lanterns and also made some great kerosene models but the Asian market was very much influenced by the Pmax design. I think the first batches were made in America but later ones were made in China. Overall quality was good, better than some of the Chinese (and Indian) clones. As far as I know there was no collaboration with E&G. Best regards, Wim
Well it all appears to be working. There is an X stamped on the rim below the D in CANADA. Can anyone show some light on its meaning? BTW my favourite lantern, as is the case with any newly acquired lamp or lantern
Thank you @Wim . You were right saying that the Asian market was much influenced by the Petromax design. I could testify that. The Colmax is seldom seen around here anyway. I've only seen perhaps a couple of the larger ones. They're certainly well-built. But I guess they were pretty much overwhelmed by the Asian clones, some of which were reasonably well-made too. Petromax fared no better. I suspect it was mainly due to the price.
