Hi, I have a Gloria Oxo gas stove 1920's. The spindle packing nut is split and not usable. I am thinking that a packing nut from a Gloria lantern of
the same era should work. A 3/8 wrench fits my packing nut. I am hoping someone here with Gloria oxo lantern can check on theirs to see what size wrench fits. If a nut from a lantern fits that will
help widen my search in lanterns and stoves for this packing nut. If anyone has one for sale please contact me. Thanks Jim 1389467091-packing_nut.jpg 1389467091-packing_nut.jpg

I would have a go at silver soldering that thing back in one piece. I have done that before on split packing nuts.

Hi, It also has a small split on the other side as well, if I can't get a replacement I will give that a try. Thanks Jim

I'd then be wondering why that's happened. Was it due to over-tightening in an attempt to stop a leak actually caused by defective gland-packing?

:-k BTW, isn't this in the wrong forum? - should be in 'Fettling', surely:-

See if there's a model engineers club local to you,the type of chaps that make model steam engines etc, some of them like a challenge and for the price of a couple of beers (the usual currency) they may be able to make one as a copy..

I'd of thought over tightening would of stripped the threads before cracking, perhaps there's less meat in the wall thickness than one would expect :-k

Hi, The wall of the nut is thin, I can see over tightening could split it. At least I have the broken one that I might be able to have a copy made somewhere. I just thought that Gloria might not have changed the size of nut for their lanterns & stoves in the early 1920's. Wouldn't they use the same one? For cost saving. Jim
