Yup there certainly is and you are here. Between us there won't be much in the way of pressure stuff one of us has not dismantled and restored to function. There is some paper uploaded here but a great deal more sitting in paper collections so there is always a good chance a diagram can be found. Beware, it is a disease with no known cure. ::Neil::
Am getting confused what does the x stand for as you say theres the x246b andthe 246b just so I know the difference visually since I have a 246 Tilley. Ron
They are all prefixed with an X. I don't know what it signifies but Vapalux and Bialaddin also used an X for outdoor lanterns. ::Neil::
i've just got a 1949 pork pie style guardsman thats leaking out of the gland nut (if thats the bit with the black knob coming out of it). to get the black knob off do i just pull? i tried that earlier it only came out about 1/4 of an inch
Hello Matt, if your lantern has it's original control cock, it will have a round black knob on the end of the spindle. Those knobs are threaded internally and they unscrew anticlockwise, you may have to use 2 pairs of pliers to remove it. Cover the spindle with a bit of cloth and then grip it firmly with a set of pliers, then use the other set of pliers to grip the Tilley knob and turn it anticlockwise. The gland nut also unscrews anticlockwise, Jeff.
So what is the difference physically between the "a" and the "b"? Am I to assume the "x" denotes outdoor lantern? My Tilley does not have any model markings except the Tilley Made in..... Ron
Ron, have a look here: http://tgmarsh.faculty.noctrl.edu/lantern/tilleylant.html You'll find examples of the different 246 varients plus a whole lot more. Sid
Hey Sid, thanks. I guess my Tilley was made in the 60's and doing some research though the burner assembly where there are 3 intakes all have thread and a screw on each one to secure the burner to the cover. I see that most have like a pin on one side. Anyway, the Tilley works as it should although its probably not as bright as the Colemans as shown here
Hello Ron, your Tilley lantern will be date stamped on the base plate. Tilley were still using better quality components when this lantern was made than they do today, Jeff.
Jeff, no stamp on the base plate or anywhere in the lamp The worker doing the stamp must have been sleepy and let the base pass by without stamping. Glad to know my lantern is one of those - better made Ron
I take it back, the patina covered what looked like a shallow stamp and after using brasso, it came to show 1966 Another question is does anyone have the dimensions for the gland washer? Would any of this fit? Ron
Hello Ron, if any of those rings fit inside the gland nut then they should do. Do remember to remove the old washer first. Washers of the correct size are for sale in the trading post section of this website. Jeff.
