Here is a Hasag 351 L that was given to me by a collector friend who used to live in Germany. I particularly like the wide brim shade that is with it. If someone would be so kind as to help me identify the time period it was made, I would be most grateful. Regarding the preheater mechanism, I wonder if it is the same basic concept as was used on the Coleman 206? That was unique for Coleman in that it was intended for use with kerosene as a preheat fuel (vs alcohol). Will
Hi Will, that's a really nice example of a HASAG 351L. Especially the original shades are a bit hard to find nowadays. I think they were not sold so often or maybe mostly thrown away/lost over time. To my opinion it was made pre-war or in the first months of the war until the old Leipzig HASAG ended to produce lamps & lanterns and switched over to ammunition etc. The preheater is intended to work with petrol/paraffin, but with some sooting as a drawback. Alcohol can be used as well and functions properly from my experience. You will find the instructions here. BR, Martin
