Just picked this up on the weekend. I saw the large green carying case marked $5.00, always need cases. When I picked it up it was heavy there was a lantern inside, so I bought it. When I got it home and had a good look at it I noticed the collar was stamped upside down. I guess someone at quality control was sleeping. I will keep this one. Anyone else seen one of these?
Could it be the collar is simply fitted upside down by a previous owner who dismantled the lamp for service?
Looking at the collar where the control wheel goes through it can only be fitted one way,so quality control must have been sleeping when this lamp left the factory,which surprises me as thhese were very well made lanterns
Now that is something, the red 220E isn't exactly a common lantern, at least in the US; but to find one with a botched collar is interesting to say the least.
That stamp should be on the pump side of the tank. If you dismantle the lamp and flip it over it will be the correct way up. As far as I can see the collar is identical either way up so it has just been fitted wrong.
Flipping it over will not work on this one, the collar was assembled wrong at the factory. There is a keyhole cut in the collar so it can be set over the valve shaft then moved back before the frame is put on; the slot goes down so there is no way to make this collar read correctly other than cutting the two rivets and bending the collar backwards before re-riveting.
Hi, Thanks for the comments, John is correct there is no way to instal the collar wrong. I am adding a couple of extra pictures to show the rivets have not been tampered with or the collar has not been cut and rejoined. Thanks Jim
If you remove the control wheel it should be possible to fit the collar over the spindle. Reminds me at the collar of my Veritas that has no key hole and is a bit tricky to fit due to the cleaning lever that goes through the collar too.
As it is now, at least the writing... Just kidding, it is very interesting to see this »printing error«
