1394556265-249-2.jpg 1394556283-249-4.jpg I just got 249 Scout 6/48. It came with this strange pre heater set up. It fits the generator perfectly. It has a screw to tighten the cup in place. There is a spacer that fits under the cup and rests on a protrusion on the top of the jamb-nut. Has anyone seen this before? is it from some other gpa and adapted to work on this lantern.
I have not had a chance to remove it yet to see if there are any markings on it. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks Henner 1394556247-240-1.jpg

Great find. The Nickel finish looks great for a lantern that old. My 249s are my favourite lanterns*. However that generator doesn't look right to me. All 249s I have seen have a thicker generator and I thought the 249s only started in 1949, not '48 (but I wouldnt be suprised if the more knowledgeable here correct me). It maybe a 242 lantern with a 249 collar (I couldnt read the collar from your pic but I presume it says 249 "scout"). I have seen plenty of colemans with mixed parts and I even added a preheater cup to a 242 using a 201 generator because its not as easy to replace 249 generators here in oz. But to cut a really long story short... no. cant help you. odd looking cup and why does it stretch so far away from the genny? And why so shallow? Id like to know how effective it is. The grub-screw idea to secure it is interesting. I think it's a home-made job to fit smaller gen, which looking at second photo may have adapter to fit at bottom?

*cept maybe my newly fettled Austramax2/300 - absolute burning hot beast.

You are correct, it is not the 249 generator. I think the previous owner just made do with what he had. The cup might be homemade but a nice job. I am also not sure of the time frame for the 249 Scout but there is one in the Lamp Reference Gallery even
earlier than mine, that one is 6/48. I did add some extra pictures over on the CCF.

    That's a fine lantern!

I reckon that the meths trough is home made, but it should do the job.

The link below shows the Coleman 249 page and my example is from 1938 and there is another example shown there which is from 1939, Jeff.
