A customer of mine offered me this AL 620 T had been hanging in his shed for 20odd years And was filthy the glass was black with old soot and cobwebs as well as a fair amount of guano of some kind. I have given it a quick clean up some new washers etc and a new vaporiser as the cleaning needle appeared to be snapped off in the jet hole. Anyway away she went! I now have to die whether to restore it or leave it working as is? It would be nice to have a chromed cage but I quite like the used look. The date stamp is for May 1970. I am surprised they were still made that recently!
Nice to have, but you don't have to die... Good luck which ever way you decide to go. It's my understanding that they were used by BR for track work and they made more sense to use where there wasn't main leccytrickery rather than battery lampses
@Sammi Jane and @pete sav thanks for looking. I agree Pete I actually like it as as it is wearing it’s age as a badge of honour. Sparkly and repainted it would not have quite the same character!
They are great little lamps, I think that one would stand a little clean and a polish, it will bring it up nicely without resorting to new paint. Alec.
@Nick Powell, most of my lampses are of the wick variety, and I've left them in the condition I got them in, as it's part of their history.
We're all entitled to have our opinions, but at the end of the day it's @Nick Powell's lantern, so it's his decision as to what to do with it.
