As received from my grandparents, this lamp was filthy(!) had a aluminium control cock fitted, vapouriser was shot, hood burnt through, burner knackered and seals u/s. The frame was salvagable if rusty.

Here it is cleaned up a little

The control cock was obviously a replacement at some point so has been replaced with a spare and the frame tidied up.

Ready for a few more year's service! Looking for a brown hood for it now...!

    You aren't alone...

Mine does still have a brown hood, but it's in a shocking state and I've been hoping for a replacement to turn up for a while.

That is a fantastic looking lamp. I like the fact that it looks like it has lived.

Gneiss - I'm trying to see if regular coach enamel will work...! For a shelf queen I reckon it will, but not a user!

53scouts, it has indeed lived! They had no electricity at their house (deep in the country!) so this was one of their house and outside lights!

What some people do is have two hoods, one for running and the other original for display...

Unfortunately once rust gets under the enamel it cracks and falls off as soon as you heat it up.

Good idea - I made the mistake of soaking one in acetic acid... Never again!

Oh well, manifold paint is at least a good way of making a hood a "user".
