Well not buses..but I have been on the lookout for a reasonable AL21 for ages, picked up two a few weeks ago and then another from Germany last Tuesday..and here is the latest.
What a find!! This looks like NOS, is it? What a real beauty! If I came home with something like this the little woman would probably "shove" it someplace where the sun doesn't shine! lol WOW!
That is the lamp George..in the first pic. However, I think I was lucky Darryl/George, the lamp looked much worse than it actually was, mostly cosmetic, no real rust to speak of. But I'm pleased with the result. I'm really loving my AL21's Black is a little more forgiving Darryl..I wish you all the best with your fettling..
@Darryl Durdin Are you missing a glass for your (early) AL21? So am I. I’ve left Okes into having hardened glass cut to size. It’s quite expensive. Tony
@george It maybe shoved up where the sun don't shine but you will have a Tilley AL21 shining out all the light your freckle needs ........ or wants
@paparazi You have done an awesome job on the restoration. Is that a hammer tone finish? I like it. Cheers Pete
Hi there, i have the glass in mine Did you polish the reflector in the lamp, what do i need to look out for, do or don't ?
@Darryl Durdin Be very gentle with the reflector. First just clean with water and detergent to see what state it’s in. You can then decide if it can be polished (very gently), but sometimes they are worn beyond redemption. Tony
You cannot polish the reflector at all, the plating is very soft! As stated, wash with warm soapy water
Hi temp type for exhaust manifolds and I picked some Kia silver from a local seller for the rest of the body, 4 for a pound bargain (small 200ml cans) and most of a large can of Valspar primer. Sprayed in less than ideal conditions i.e. in a cold shed with a small blow heater doing its best to take off the chill (it was snowing outside at the time lol)
You guys do great when it comes to restoration work. Really turn out nice. @Darryl Durdin Can't wait to see yours!
Thank you, mine is a lttle way dowm my to do list, i enjoy your thread and yours is something i would inspire mine to look like, you have done a great job, looks as new if not better. I also like the words of wisdom from the fellas and take caution when advised,
