Hi, after reading many posts on here about mantles I was inspired to attempt making one. I would appreciate any guidance regarding my effort, in particular does anyone think the mesh is too small and if so could it damage the burner?
My expectation is that it will work better than original. You will probably need a hole to let the flame inside the mantle. Nice work.

Ah yes, I had contemplated trying it first without the holes just to see but I think it will probably be better to have them from the get go. And I will certainly give it a double shot of preheating, thanks
That's a very neat looking mantle, well done. In the past, I've made mantles for Tilley heaters simply by weaving wire from old electric heater elements which worked very well without the two small round holes as found on genuine Tilley mantles. After all, Tilley never punched such holes in their asbestos mantles. I strongly recommend the use of an insulating tube on the spigot Tilley lamp spares item 165 If you use the draught shield when preheating, you'll find one charge is more than adequate. Thanks Henry. I can’t take too much credit for the manufacture as the mesh was actually already formed (it was previously a filter in a steam valve) and the base plate is 2 stainless steel washers, the smaller sat inside the larger one and welded. The 3 parts were pretty much a perfect fit and all I can take credit for is the vision I’ll definitely fit an insulating tube. The radiator came with one but it has a crack down it’s whole length so a new one is required (got a couple more lamps needing parts so just waiting until I can place a single order). And again was fortunate to get an original draught shield with the radiator
