Hi - I’m relatively new to the world of pressure lamps.
I’ve restored a few Tilley Lamps recently. Now I’ve got my father in laws Bialaddin 310 to restore.
I’ve bought a set of washers for it 125-1698, but there is only 8 washers in it. I’ve taken the 310 lamp fully apart and there are 9 washers:
    Fill/air release = 2
    Pump = 2
    Stop cock valve = 3
    Internal valve = 2
Please excuse my terminology (hopefully you understand what I’m referring to) and also I apologise if this question has been asked a million times before.
I’m hoping one of you good people could point me in the right direction for the ‘missing’ washer.......
    Thanks, Phil

8 is correct, looks like someone used an extra washer on the control cock.

Thanks Mackburner for the 310 operating instructions. Unfortunately, it’s not clear how many or where the washers go. It states there are 5 washers in a set.

Hi Gary - on the control cock, there is a washer on the bottom, a washer on the top and a gland packing washer?

Top one is the vaporiser washer.

Oooops - to correct my earlier post, the operating instructions state 7 washers in a set.
My 310 has 9 washers though.....

Can you post some pictures of your dilemma. The washer set I posted is the correct set for a 310.
7 washers then 1 leather pump washer.

Hi, it’s all built back up now. I’m just about to give it a test....
I used 8 washers plus the leather pump washer. I had to get the extra washer from my ‘spares’.
I know that I’ve done something wrong because these 63666F58-0A94-4FED-AC89-8C86AD5A85B5.jpeg washer sets have obviously been going for donkeys years. I just don’t know where I’ve gone wrong because 8 + 1 washers came off it.....

:-s :? Where are the two washers on your pump? :-k
There is one leather pump cup on the pump-rod - V24
There are two on the filler cap - T811 and V9
There are three on/in the jet cleaner (what you're wrongly calling a stop cock) - V23, V44, V28
There are two on/in the non-return valve - NRV (what you're calling the internal valve) - V33 and V34
That's eight washers and there are eight in the envelope.

Have you tried to put one under the pump top collar? If you have, there's no need - what's it supposed to be sealing?

I think those part numbers are correct - I've got them from the image above and my eyesight ain't what it used to be... :-&

The two washers on the pump are the leather one and one under the ‘nut’ which secured it to the font.
From memory, it’s v33 - ‘pump valve external washer’ and it fits like a glove. It’s the same size as the one that came out.
I think I can see where this is heading.....

    Thanks David,
I’ve removed the washer under the pump top collar.
Will light it up after tea.
    Thanks for all your help.
    Great forum....

That looks fine although the redundant washer under the pump collar was never going to stop it working. It might have perhaps reduced the length of the pump-stroke by a couple of millimetres but that's all.

Correct globe, too - be careful with it...

I get messages asking for a washer for the pump collar or telling me it's missing from a kit quite frequently. In a lot of cases the new owner found a washer there from it's past life & assume it's correct. Likely from a vain attempt in the past to fix a NRV leak without fully understanding how it works.

Yup, I think that's the top and bottom of it.

If the rationale of sealing the pump-collar had anything about it (which it hasn't, obviously) then logically there'd also have to be some attempt to seal the pump-rod into the pump-collar...

There are quite a few new members (and some not-so-new members) who collect lanterns wirhout really understanding how they work!

Ahhh, that wasn't meant to sound rude to new members. I was thinking more of the 'one post wonders' who post an image of an X246b and then ask if it's rare and how much it's worth.

...and follow that by asking what paint they can use on the hood as it's a bit tatty!

    @philly

In Denmark, we say that there are no stupid questions.
    Only stupid answers.
Finally, ask everything you feel like.
I myself have learned an incredible amount in this forum, by asking questions.

I’ve gained lots of knowledge so far from this forum - thanks to all.
It’s going to be a few days before I can lamp fettle again as I’m working on trying to get an old motorbike roadworthy for the summer season......
    Limited time!

I bought my first pair of lamps - two Tilley X246b's - about 3 and a half years ago and knew nothing! Everything I've learned has been from this forum or from friends I've met here!

@ColinG Same here, but 2 years ish......Now I can have any standard Tilley/Vapalux/Bialaddin working in a few minutes, just sorting seals and a quick clean up, and nicking parts from other lamps if necessary!
I actually did a good job on a Hipolito once, that needed the Vapouriser sorting out. Saying all that though, I have not got a clue where to start with a Coleman 275 I have. :(:-k

@Johnny19 most Coleman lamps are not complicated. And there are lots about, along with many who have restored them. Sometimes parts can be tricky to get hold of but mostly OK. Don't worry too much about them.

@Fireexit1 Apparently this needs a fuel resistant shraeder valve, and have a reputation for being finicky to use? I only bought it (very cheaply), for the globe as it fits my Ward Westernfield should that ever break.
Anyway, this 275 builds pressure but wont ignite. It's a project for another time methinks! Thank You....:)

OMG, the dreaded Coleman 275, also known as the turd! If I remember correctly it uses a Schrader valve and isn't very safe - at least under certain circumstances... someone help me out here, what was wrong with it again? And the brown paint didn't exactly help it's popularity. That said, I'd still have one in my collection.
