It’s finally finished, what a saga.

Bought at the back end of last year it’s been a long process to get it here. I had to repair a snapped cleaning needle with a copper electrical crimping ferrule which worked well. Then I had the hood re-enamelled, cleaned it, painted the steel fount and reassembled but then had fuel supply problems. Got it lit on an 80/20 blended fuel but only if I kept pumping it. Then it wouldn’t light again. Eventually narrowed it down to a fuel pickup blockage which after I unsoldered it from the valve (Good advice again from @Henry Plews ) and realising it was also threaded and screwed into the valve also I found what looked like a very clogged roll of copper mesh. If these had a filter in at the time of production, it was well past it’s best or perhaps a diy effort. I had to drill it out of the tube. Resoldered it back in place and reassembled and away she goes on pure paraffin. A long restoration but pleased with the end result.

Thanks again to @Tilleyz13 for the enamelling.

Great effort, you must be well pleased with the result. Glad you got there in the end. I shall use this post as inspiration to get mine running.

I have a couple of these in various stages of decreptitude. This gives me some inspiration for repair. Your painted tank looks really good.

The UK/EU postage drama is now so difficult. I really would like to get some hoods re-enamelled too.

The fount came out well but I nearly wrecked it. I hadn’t paid enough attention to the paint I bought and it was a metallic British racing green. It looked ridiculous all glittery with the metallic. So I switched from the planned gloss lacquer to a Matt xht lacquer which dulled it and it came out really well.

A question for anyone also running one of these. What mantles are you using? I have run out of 111 mantles which I would most likely have gone for otherwise, so tested it with a 21 and it blew a hole in it straight off. Ordering some more mantles but not sure what to try on this.

Well worth the effort, it's looking good !

Any single tie mantle for 350/500 cp lanterns will work O.K.

Thank you Henry. I have just placed an order for a big box of Peerless 111 that should do the job. I bought several under the gasman brand and really liked them, but haven’t found any more since. Hoping these are as good!
