I received this very worn Petromax today . I'm not overly familiar with this model of lamp ,I've managed to clean the dirt from the logo and there is only the 'e' in the circle and I don't see any numbers on the base . There a few things that I could do with some advice on ,firstly the cut out in the frame for the rapid preheater looks like a homemade adaption . The inner base plate looks to have been custom made aswell . What is missing from the hole between the pump and the filler cap,I have a feeling that it might be a pressure gauge ? And lastly for now at least, the filler cap, to my eyes it dont look right . Thanks marten .
Hi Marten.. if you look at the ‘E’ you will see it is inside a larger ‘G’ lots of help available from members on here for your lantern ps looking at other 200cp petromaxes in the Gallery, I think the filler cap is ok? Good find
I don't know how I missed the G with the E ,that was the first part I cleaned to see the logo more clearly, I did not notice that at all ,thanks for pointing that out
That could be a Petromax 827. Most of it is original except the pricker control knob. The original knob/wheel could be a single-piece 'fibre-pertinax phenolic' or an early 2-piece bakelite one. The cut-out was meant for the rapid preheater(missing). Yes, there should be a pressure gauge mounted where the hole is. The filler cap is the correct type for older Petromax lanterns. E&G(Ehrich & Graetz) of Germany would be the original manufacturer. Later units(still original German Petromax) only have a G (Graetz) in the logo. I don't have an 827. There are many members here having this model. What about pictures showing the top parts: hood/cap, inner hood and burner assembly?
Thanks mum for the reply . I did notice the controll wheel when I gave a quick wipe over, it appears to be a two piece but I think it's brass? At the moment the controll wheel is stuck solid and I can't turn it so a little bath of wd40 is in order I think
Hello Henry Yes the control wheel does have threads in the inside of it ,and now that you mentioned it ,it does look like a pump cap ,unfortunately it got a little destroyed trying to get it off. Someone had brazed a sleeve to the inside of the wheel and then soldered the whole thing to the eccentric rod ?
