Could anyone please assist me with the identification of a recent gift that will be a project and what kit I would need to restore it please,TIA

You have a Tilley 246B lantern.
On the bottom should be a stamp with a series of numbers and letters ie 1067XA . This is the manufacture date mm/ yy.
What is yours stamped.
No pump shown in the photo, do you have it?

 

Thank you so much for your time in identifying my lantern. The only number I can see is on the bottom of the fuel tank which is 275. There is another number that I have found which is (I can't remember where cos it is in the garage) which is 214AO4BC. Could this possibly be it?

I was thinking that the number 275 could indicate that the lantern was built February 1975, (2=Feb, 75=1975).
As to the other number letter combination, I can’t help you.

That sounds about right Pete I got it off an old man I still fish with its hung on my fence for three years and I looked at it and thought "I wonder so I'm gonna do it up and give himi it back for his 90th birthday

You didn’t answer the question about the pump @tony Burridger, not much good without it. If you don’t have one I’m sure I have a spare you could have.

 

Thanks a million Jean for your kind offer, I do have it just on with cleaning it. If I cold be so bold, where do I buy a COMPLETE SERVICE KIT, renewing all washers and stuff along with a new plastic knob to turn the thing on?

Might want to check the tank/fount to see if there are any pin holes in it. You can add fuel or water to it j to see if its solid.

I just did a search for Broadlander YouTube and they were the first thing to come up :-)
The x246b is a great starter lamp, easy to work on and parts are readily available
Good luck with your project
After early mishaps I generally now service a lamp before any restoration incase other probs are there.. bit of a downer scratching new paint pulling it apart again.. obvious I know but easy to get carried away (for me )

@tony Burridger , what a lovely kind jesture, to restore the lantern and give it back to your friend.
I’ve restored many lanterns and have named them after loved ones past and present. I give them away to my friends as birthday gifts as well.
