Hi! I just got this Optimus 25x model. It was black and not easy to see something. The top has lost most of it's plating. The tank lost also a part of the plating. The cleaning process is on it's way. The generator i think it's a early one. The big surprise for me was the number on the tank. A 252 Now i feel obligated to change the tank on my 252 with this one . More pics will come. Enjoy! Cheers, Francisc
Congratulations to this find. It is not often you see the tank stamped 252, most of them has 200 on the tank. But it seems like a big challande to get it in working order. Bo
Thanks @Bo Ryman and @JEFF JOHNSON! In working order i don't think it will be so challenging but to make it a nice looking lamp it will be a challenge. The cleaning needle is working and the generator is the early model with access from beneath. Cheers, Francisc
That's a very interesting find. An early example as seen by the vapouriser. The big question of course is why the tank is stamped 252. In this configuration it should be a 255. the 252 was the tall lamp with wooden handle. It certainly looks like it has always been together like this, so the factory could have made a mistake. Actually the fact that there is a model number on the tank in itself is unusual. All the lamps I have seen from this era don't have any number on at all. As I said before, a very interesting find and an exciting piece of history.
@Nils Stephenson indeed. I was looking today through gallery to see if the other lamps have a number on the tank (is then i saw yours optimus 265). The only tank with numbers was a "200" stamped on them. On one of @morphia post i wasn't sure about the number but i found the lamp in another post and it was 200 on thst too. I have a 252 without number, but as you write, it appears that this combination it was from the beginning. So i will let it be a part of history as it was found. Cheers, Francisc
The cleaning is going further. Today i puted on paus the cleaning to see how the vaporizer (without touching it) works. Is working very well /Francisc
Optimus 252 is supposed to be a table lamp rather than the lantern style in your pictures. No idea if there had be a mistake in the stamping. Anyways, you've got a rare example there.
@MYN i agree. Here stands next to the lamp type what it should bare that number. Probably I'm gonna swap the tanks. Maybe the previous owner has removed the handle making it easier to put away? Cheers, Francisc
I think the founts(your earlier 252 lantern and the standing/pole/ table type 252) aren't exactly identical, particularly at the top sections. I don't think it is necessary to swap. If it is really a factory mistake, I'd just leave it as it is.
