Veritas 350 packer?

I'm getting a new pricker for my nice Veritas, but just want to check the packer that came out of it.
Does this look right? The spiral thing?

 

Hmm..
Perhaps a former owner experienced black mantle disease and found that it helped in the same way as some of the Coleman lanterns have in theirs?

Well I'll be getting a new pricker for it, we'll know then.

 

There is nothing that goes around the pricker rod on that lantern out of the factory.

What you have is an artefact of someone’s fettling.

Perhaps it was pulsing and that was their idea to improve fuel flow through the vapouriser. On my Hipolito 502, had to wrap the pricker in bronze wool to stop it from pulsing, runs fine now. Just a thought
