Hi all, I was going round a fleamarket today when I came across this absolute beauty! Was marked up at £18 and I haggled it down to £12... Just lit it and it all seems to work fine. It's my first pressure lamp so wasn't too sure what I was doing but found some petromax instructions online and it worked a treat! I wondered if anyone has any advice about: [LI]How much it's actually worth (I think I got a bargain)[/LI][LI]Anything I need to look out for, things to maintain etc?[/LI][LI]Where I can get replacement mantles from?[/LI][LI]Where I can get replacement glass? (It's cracked on this one!)[/LI] Many thanks, Kevin
Hello Kevin and welcome aboard! That was a bargain and a new glass will cost more than you paid for the lantern. Base camp may have parts though, check out the links page on this website, Jeff.
Thank you Jeff! And thanks for the welcome... I think I shall spend a lot of time reading all the information available in here I shall send base camp an email and see if they can advise what I need Thanks again, Kevin
This is Petromax or maybe an Aladdin Petromax 827 and a better bargain than you know. That lantern dates from 1937 to 1941 and in that condition is seriously rare. It has a label on the collar which will tell us what brand it is and the model number. When found in the UK these are normally labeled as Aladdin-Petromax. They were however sold in the rest of Europe as Petromax. A shot of the label will be good if you can please. ::Neil::
Now that I did not expect. A Racek Petromax with a model number, 827A, that I have not heard of before. This one gets added to the record and so far is a unique example. I could do with some bigger images of this one if possible please. I will PM you with my email. ::Neil::
I no whave some better images of this and it is a 1939 type 827. It seems to be a pretty standard 827 and the model number is probably just a Racek number rather than a Petromax factory number. Still an interesting lamp and from that period you don't often see them in such nice condition. ::Neil::
