    *Split from this topic.

Here is the lantern. It's an H-502--bottom of fount has numbers 9528 stamped. As far as I can tell. it's only missing the globe(but then again, I'm used to Coleman stuff, so this is new to me)
Martin, thank you so much for the link
Any help on how the different parts work would be super helpful---there are so many things on this lantern that I can't figure out------------

    Hello,

De facto it is a petromax style clone.
All the Px 500 parts should fit. The lantern looks rough. i always say: take it apart make yourself familiar with the parts and function so you know you it works and why. Find a us based petromax parts supplier and order all new seals, jet and needle, ceramic (no stainless) burner head and the right mantles.

Biggest risk is that the previous owner used other fuel then "petroleum" (kerosene) and that you may have a clogged vaporizer.
Never, never, listen to the b**shit of multi fuel and using other kinds of fuel.

For the first runs use the built in pre heater spirit cup not the flame thrower.

    Have fun !!

It also looks like you miss the flame spreader, but that shouldn't be hard to find.
As Wim says, it's the same for practically all Petromax clones.

The end of the mixing tube where the flame spreader should attach looks a bit fishy, though...
    I can't see any threads.:-k

Good to see you have the lantern. Although it looks a little rough at the moment with a little TLC it should clean up nicely.
Can't help much as I don't have a Petromax or clone.
In another post @phaedrus42 gave a link to a document giving a very good technical description on how to perform a complete cleaning and restoration of a PETROMAX http://www.eschaefer.de/hobbys/starkl/px-rest.pdf
Make sure you read section 9. Adjustment of mixing tube distance

    Hope it helps

    @Carlsson

Christer, The ceramic flame spreader is missing but is the brass gas chamber also missing off the end of the mixing tube? Not a good picture but there does appear to be threads on the outside.

I think the easiest way for you to get spare parts in the US is to buy from Britelyt.
The Britelyt lantern is identical to a Petromax lantern, except for some design differences, which is identical to the Hipolito lantern.
Hipolito was manufacturing the Petromax lantern for Petromax in about 30 years before the production moved to China.
Britelyt buy their lantern parts from the same Chinese factory as Petromax do.
I do not think there is any Petromax supplier in the US due to copyright issues.

yes, there are threads. The mantle mount(ceramic I think) unscrewed easily from this.It appeared reasonably clean, so all that I did was warm soapy Dawn and dried. I think it is ok. No chips or any damage.
I am very unfamiliar with these lanterns, but would love to learn about them. Thank you to ROBB055 for the link--very helpful--
If there are pictures I could take of specific parts, please let me know
