    Hi

i have bought my Tilleys up to present and have done minor fettles. Over the past 3 weeks i have been able to aquire all parts for my first Tilley Guardsman 246 fettle.
I´m presently cleaning, removing rust etc.
I have a black hood with minor chips and have found some black stove varnish which should be ok. My problem is the frame, i have a polished brass tank and would like to spray the frame gold.
I cannot find any suitable gold spray. I was intending getting some heat resistant paint but all i can find is gold spray with max. 50°C.
Will that be OK? I can imagine the frame being exposed to higher tempertures than 50°

    Thanks
    Dave

That should be ok for the frame. I use VHT Gold, or Rover Gold car enamel. I use a good metal primer underneath.

The frame will always chip and wear if your lamp is a user...

    Cheers

Personally I would respray the tank too rather than leave it bare brass... I think the Hammerite Smooth Gold is a reasonable match and they claim you don't need a primer.
