Hi All I picked this up today at my local salvage yard It does look rather sad for itself but im sure ill get it looking good soon, The plating is rather poor on the tank, can i get it replaced? Also it doesnt have the tilley logo engraved in it just a sticker on the base is that right? Here is a picture I have fired it up using my other hood and it worked. Can i use autosol cleaner to bring its shine up again? Cheers Adam
The plating on those is often poor and it never lasted well in use. Re plate? Might be worth it perhaps although I would just wait for a better example to turn up. Yes that is the 1950 to 1954 ish version which has the loop handles, no stamps on the tank and a decal in the base or on the side of the tank. ::Neil::
Hi Adam brilliant find and well done there on saving a great lantern, and putting it back into use, what it was intendid for,no matter what condition it is in, i am sure you will make it look good,it will make a difference cleaning the plaiting and polishing it with autosol.if you are not satisfied with the results you could in some way remove the plaiting and polish and laquer the tank or even respray it,it would look superb if you could get it replaited but that i would imagine would be expensive and would come to as much or more than the lamp's value, but what ever you decide and do a good job of restoreing it you will find it very satisfiying
