Hi all, I bought a Swedish army surplus Petromax 828, a few years ago, complete in the box still with the original packing. It came with a small box of ( I believe) radioactive mantles, Luxor brand, made in Austria.
Swithering between keeping it unused and firing it up. Just lit it and gave it a run, and what a great light it gave out. For someone used to Tilley, Bialladdin and Vapalux, it was great to bathe in the warm light it gave off.
Unfortunately, the mantle holed after a bit, so it was quickly turned off, to save the original Jena glass.
I'm going to acquire a few modern mantles, and enjoy the lantern. I'm amazed it fired up first time with no problem after sitting in a box since 1966!

Those "made in Germany" are hard to beat. They throw out an amazing amount of light and noise but very dependable!

I think you opened two threads on the same Px 828. The shown pics
are identical. Your lamp with crown and CF was issued for the Danish
Civil Forsvaret (civil defense). It is made in Germany, and there are four
digits stamped in the fount's bottom to indicate the year of construction.
You are asked to show them.
