The Primus 992 is truly a very beatifull lamp. Mine is a 1955 model, and it runs very well. I do however feel that I have to remove the globe in order to fill the preheater cup. While there is an opening to accomodate the spirit can nozzle, I cannot see what is happening, hence the globe removal. Is there a better or 'proper' way of starting the lamp?
Just remove the top and peak down while you pour in the meths. It only sit there on its three tabs waiting to be removed for this

The swan-necked can is the correct for most Primus lamps. It works well on the 992, but it can be a bit fiddly to get in position. They could have made the holes a bit larger both in the globe rest and the spirit cup shield. But you might also use a squeeze bottle with a long spout like the one below. That's the one I use for most of my apparatus. You can reach the spirit cup on the 992 if you have a thin spout and fill with a gentle squeeze. But you need to either lift the lamp or place it near the end of a table, shelf or wherever you have your lamp, to be able to use an as large bottle as that.
