I have one AIDA express record 250cp. Base on information, i saw preheater and frame that has been produced on 1954-1964, it is under petromax. But i could not find "4 digit" under oil tank. Normally, all petromax/aida/hipolito has been produced at Alterna that have mark production date under oil tank. But my aida lantern have no "4 digit". Pls help to understand and help more information what regarding to this product. Thanks, Minh
Yes that is a 1954 to 1964 rapid. Both Aida and Petromax were made in Altena in that period. However Hipolito never were. The Hipolito works was in Torres Vedras Portugal and only after Petromax production was moved there were both made in the same works. ::Neil::
Machined stamped dates on the bottom were made between 1961 to 1970. Hand scratched dates were made prior to 1961. Your lantern has, I think, the plastic rapid flipper so it was probably made between 1954 and 1960. About 1964, the metal flipper was introduced. This is the same type flipper used today. There was a period, I think between 1954 and I think 1956, when no scratched dates appeared on the bottom. The lantern collar was completely different, and I believe the tank had a rim around it that made the collar fit right on top of the tank. I think they called it "sicke" or something like that. I can't tell from your picture exactly what kind of collar is on your lantern, but I do see what looks like a plastic flipper. The collar usually gives some indication of the date on the "sicke" types. If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me. I would appreciate that. Very nice example.
