hi i have an aida express 1500 lantern it wont light and the tourch is clouged seems to hold presser found alot of mud dabbers in the lantern collar and up in the burner all cleaned out and i just used a 288 globe i want more of these tip needle seeme to be working im gonna add a preheatet cup can anybody tell me whats going on thanks Mike
I suppose you have already filled it up with kerosene? Only use kerosene (preferably 1-k kero, but any regular ones would do). I hope it isn't the lamp oil variety. Never use highly volatile and inflammable gasoline, Coleman or Crown camp fuels with this lantern. It wasn't designed for these. We'll then start off with the unit already pressurized. I'd assume it holds pressure as mentioned. You need to remove the upper hood, cage/frame, glass globe and burner assembly for the following checks. The other parts like the preheater, vaporizer and other attachments on the fount can be left in place: Ok, first of all, you should be getting fuel flow all the way to the gas tip/jet outlet orifice once you turn the tip cleaner or pricker control knob by 180°. This should open the foot valve located at the bottom end of the fuel pick up tube inside the fount. At the same time, the cleaning needle would also be lowered, retracting downwards away from the jet orifice, making way for the fuel. The fuel discharge at the jet' orifice should appear sharp, and shooting vertically upwards. Have you progressed up to the above stage? If not, then perhaps the fuel path is blocked or the cleaning needle rod assembly is missing or incorrectly assembled. You need to sort this one out if you haven't already done so. As for the rapid preheater torch, it needs to be unblocked. There should be a mixture of both fount air and fuel for the discharge. Are you getting this currently? If you are, try to light up the atomized fuel discharge. Otherwise, it is likely that either the fuel, air path or both are clogged. This should be rectified before proceeding to other stuffs.
