I was finally able to get my Aladdin lantern that I found a few weeks ago, fettled thanks to the generosity of one of our members named Darryl Darryl Was kind enough to send me a pricker and a jet After reading a post, trying to source these parts. The Aladdin is burning great much to my delight, And guess what no leaks from the fount!! Thanks again for the parts, Darryl. I couldn’t done it without you, my friend!! Mark
That is a beautiful lantern i had not seen an Aladdin lantern before. What year and model? I have a Model 5 brass table lamp early 1913 i think
@Kevin Goyer Mark’s lantern is an Australian-made Aladdin Model 1A made from around 1940 and close copy of a Radius 119 lantern. Cheers Tony
Thanks Tony The Aladdin’s are fairly new to me. I’m not sure how to date them even. Any info or resources would be appreciated. Thanks Mark
I could tell that it was brass straight off. I must get the Brasso out and give my X246B a good polish, it's not looking its best...
@MarcoM , your lantern looks great, glad I could help out. It was nice to chat the other day when you received the parts. Aladdin 1A are very cool, they do vary for time periods but are still basically the same set up. Hours of fun. The sun in a jar.
Brasso is a bit harsh on the brass, you are better off using something like Mothers mag and aluminium polish. It’s what I use. @hikerduane
@Darryl Durdin , I've been using Brasso for years without a problem. But I have seen Mothers mag and aluminium polish on eBay, so I might give it a go. I must admit I'd never heard of it before.
PS, I've just noticed that it says 'keep out of the reach of children' on the Bakers fluid. Oh we try so hard to do that.!
In my experience, these Aladdin’s are poorly made and often missing parts. But… they are lovely when they’re running! Great work!!
