Had a good New Year's Day, climbed Bennachie (local landmark near Inverurie) as we usually do. Quite mild. Today bitterly cold wind and power went off for 3 hours in the afternoon. Lit the FS1 and a couple of wickie lamps, got the wood burner going then sat down with book and glass of wine. Bliss!

Oh Jean why must you torture us. That sure is a beautiful sight though. No power cuts down here yet this winter, I'm still waiting patiently. I'll have to settle for a Tl10 if the time comes.

It is beautyfull lamp Jean and the umbrella-shade really fits the lamp. I often miss a floorlamp this height you have there.

    you got power cut down?
didn't happen in my area for the last 10 years. :(
would like to use the lamps, stoves, heaters in a real situation. not just for leisure.
40L of fuel stored in the cellar.

Willi, it was quite good that this power cut happened in (almost) daylight so we didn't have to grope around in the dark as we usually do for torches, matches and all the things we need for lighting a Tilley. Usually we just get one going and the power comes back on. Found out today that the cause was a goose, or geese, hundreds settled in the fields around here just a few days ago.

I can just imagine a goose getting flash-roasted by getting caught in overhead power wires while coming in for a landing.

Wires are very hard to see at twilight when geese settle in for the night.

Thanks for that Al, perhaps it is possible that a goose caused it, there was a dead goose which was offered to my husband by the power engineers - he declined. However, it may be coincidence that the nearest wind turbine has been stopped since that day. You make up your own mind Ray!
