I got back safe and sound and the Vl's are still where I left them. Not many pics, I didn't really get round the rest of the show much. The last two pics of the grand SL61 light up. Thanks to Nigel for the three on the left, Steve for the two on the right and then mine in the middle. David tried his best by bringing one but it was having a bad day and wouldn't light even after Nigel had ago at fettling it. Thanks to everyone else for another enjoyable weekend and I look forward to the next get together.
Nah, it was working fine in the afternoon after Nigel had fettled it for me (thanks Nigel! ) whilst I drank coffee and gossiped with Trevor and Si. Either there simply wasn't room for it on the table, or (more likely, IMHO), you just didn't want it showing-up the rest of yours... Lamps, lanterns and stoves today; world domination tomorrow...
Note on calender. October 4th 5th and 6th 2013 Ashover festival of light. This was my first visit to this event and im already looking forward to next year. I wish i had not forgotten to take my camera The weather was good although we did have some rain during the night. I was based next to big si and steve (shed man). I would like to thank steve for sharing his sloe gin. Its powerful stuff! and simon for the chocholate pudding. It was also good to see mick, pete, ian and mathew and to see there great collection of lamps. I would also like to thank Stan the engine man and the other organisers for there hard work and help that made the event run smoothly. This is a good show to attend with money being raised for the air ambulance. Nigel
I would just like to add to Nigel's comments I really enjoyed the event, it is free to exhibit there so you only need to pay for your food and transport to and from. There were loads of things to see and do apart from lamps (Heaven forbid). People were genuinely interested in lamps and stoves; let’s see more people there next year please. Si
What a great weekend. Lots to see and the weather was kind to us. Some lovely lamp displays and lots of interest from the general public in the lamps, especially as the temperature dropped and the heat from the lamps attracted folk like moths to a candle. Many thanks to Stan, his lovely wife Sally and their young son for making us so welcome. It is a very well organised, yet relaxed type of show. I will definitely be going again next year. Well done the Ashover Vintage Tractor Club . The bonus also is that exhibitors do not pay, and also get free camping. I particularly enjoyed the interest shown by the public. Maybe might have even recruited a few more future lamp collectors. Steve.
Here are a few pics of mine from Ashover. It is called the "Ashover Festival of Light". Next year let's see if we can muster a few more Lamp exibiters and show them what real "lighting" is! It is a great venue, with the most beautiful scenery and a really friendly village atmosphere. Steve.
Ha Ha i am not feeling quite that guilty yet Matthew maybe in a while one will be up for grabs for some good swaps cheers pete
First time I have been to the Festival of Light. I thought I would not know anyone - but strangely enough, I knew nearly everyone from the various Newark meets. So I put on my lampie hat and caught up with all the gossip. Of course, the meaning of the title of the meet was evident only at night. How they managed this with lanterns is beyond my understanding - but I am just a stovie after all.
Some of us made it into the papers! http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/pictures/2011-Ashover-Vintage-Festival-Light/pictures-13454809-detail/pictures.html http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/pictures/pictures-2012-Ashover-Vintage-Festival-Light-2/pictures-17046566-detail/pictures.html http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/pictures/pictures-2012-Ashover-Vintage-Festival-Light-1/pictures-17046575-detail/pictures.html Si
I think the photo coverage was excellent Pete, I shall have the date in my dairy for next year, and Nigel and I are in discussions for smoke machines, bubble machines and lasers. As people have already said, it’s free to camp there for the weekend if you display your lamps and stoves. Also there was a genuine interest in the things we had on display. Si
Many thanks to Stan (The Engine Man) and all his colleagues whose work behind the scenes made everything so enjoyable. If we can get a few more exhibitors we have been promised our own row!!!! Just had another look at Pete's first photos...is Mick drinking his meths???
Well something put a smile on his face last weekend - I didn't think it was the meths, though... Two objects of great beauty (and Mick)... Pete's early SL1, as seen on page 45 of Jim Dick's book. Ray (Longilily), new member Tracey (TurboTracey) and the new slimline version of Trevor (Shagratork) pose in front of a nice little 'Frogeye' Sprite. This definitely caught my eye and I went enquiring after it - unfortunately there were 15,000 reasons why I didn't end up buying it. Maybe if I sold my entire lamp collection... Another lovely little thing. Only part of the selection of real ales available down at the Old Poet's Corner pub. The four of us stayed in a farm cottage about 10 minutes drive from the show (unless you took a wrong turning ) and no taxis were available, so someone had to drive. The food there was good too, so we didn't make much of the show that night. This is why it's called the Festival of Light - nowt to do with Tilley, Bialaddin or Vapalux, unfortunately...
Some nice pics there David. I would be happy to help you get one of those engines. Of course you'd have to be selling something tasty. Say... a Jacobean, or something similar.
Like the pictures David. Nice aerodynamic classic oh and the frogeye. Workie Ticket and you on the wagon.
No worries - I managed a pint with the meal (sipped it slowly) and then we wandered around the show for ages afterwards. If I hadn't been driving though, no doubt I'd have been smashed i.e. piston broke...
Booking forms are coming through Guys 'n' Gals. 4th, 5th and 6th of October, get that date down in your diaries and make sure you don't book anything else.
OK Matt, I will start decanting the Sloe Gin about September (give it a few extra months to mature ) Is Stan the Engine Man still involved on the Committee? Maybe I had better contact him I really did enjoy Ashover last year . Steve.
Excellent, but don't forget the bottle in june. Us lampies need to make sure the best lights prize goes to some real lights this year. The more lamps we take the more we'll drown out those pesky fairy lights.
Iv'e no idea what you are talking about Matt You'r not suggesting any sort of fix are you . Anyway, don't panic , keep calm 8) , I have catered for Newark as well . Steve.
