Hi fellas, im working on my 2/300, i have need of some advice, not wanting to damage what i have. Dose the air/fuel valve unscrew from the tank? On this one it moves 1/4 of a turn anti clock wise. Is the pricker leaver removable, mine moves easily in both direction and moves in and out easily, for want of a better word its loose. How do i remove it to fit new seals etc. Ive attached a few picture. Any advice will be muchly appreciated. The valve stem dose turn with spanner anti clock wise but hits the centre spigot.

That's a hard one. Presuming that the valve and fuel pickup assembly screws into a receiving threaded socket firmly fixed to the tank, to be able to unscrew the valve assembly, one would think that the centre spigot would have to be removed first somehow. Does the centre spigot screw onto a stud fixed to the tank? I can't for the life of me see how to do it otherwise. Cheers Pete
The center spigot uncrews from the tank, it will need to be re sealed, the valve stem now rotates but dose not unscrew. I'll post puncture
@Darryl Durdin You’re getting there. I’m wondering why the valve won’t unscrew. It’s almost like the receiving socket in the tank has come lose, or, the thread on the valve that screws into the receiving socket is stripped. If it’s stripped or damaged using a pulling force whilst undoing the valve could work ...... fingers crossed. Cheers Pete
Hi fellas, its a total disaster, thread was stripped. I cut the fuel valve out with my dremel.the hole thread has been stripped befor. Upon investigating it appears that it was taken apart before, the cam on the pricker is not there, it is flat , no pin to raise or lower, the block in the cam is bent stightly backwards and the pricker is bent and jamed. Im a bit diapointed as ive been searching for one for a while. Ive got no idea how to fix it, braise the valve hole, re tap? The bottom of the fuel valve is inside the tank
@Darryl Durdin I feel your disappointment, however all is not in vain. Through your efforts, you and subsequently we, have found out quite a bit about this lantern. We now know how it pulls down. You will find another fount or another lamp ....... they’re out there for discovery ......... good hunting. Cheers Pete
@Darryl Durdin As Pete said, we have all learnt a lot from this. If you take the pump out you should be able to get the pieces. Separate the valve from the threaded insert and solder the threads back onto the font. Then you just need a replacement valve.
hello there fellas, thanks for the words of encouragement, you never know what condition your lantern may be in its all part of the fun, the fuel stem wont come out, the threaded ring that is suppose to be attached to the tank has broken away and is firmly attached to the threaded part of the fuel pickup , it is all to big to get out through the fuel opening. it has surely been a learning curve. All good
Hi Darryl, Been watching the thread and sorry it’s turned out to be a bit of a bummer. As mentioned above, I think you’ve nothing to loose by having a go soldering on the threaded ring (assuming you can get it out!). I’m not really a betting man, but I think a punt on you sorting this lamp out would be a safe one! Good luck with it mate, Stevie
Hi there, thanks for the support, i can not get the fuel stem out the thread ring is attached and is bigger than any opening. I have thought about re tapping etc but ill habe to find out more about it, its way above my skill set. Im happy to have one as a shelf queen, if anyone wants pictures etc not a problem.
The biggest opening you might get besides the fount's bottom would be by de-soldering out the pump tube. Others have done that before. That's pretty lot of work there.
Darryl The spare 2/300 tank I ended up with suffered the same fate as yours. The retaining thread has been stripped. It was soldered with plumbers solder, and when I melted the solder to unscrew it, I found out it was stripped. So... being a stubborn bastard, I re-soldered it in its correct position. It’s got a broken eccentric, but I’m determined to get it working now! You could solder your control block in place. Fill the tank with water first so that you don’t melt the other soldered parts. I’ll still keep my eyes open for another 2/300 tank for you. Cheers Tony @Darryl Durdin

Hi mate, I'm glad I found this before I got too involved, I think I've got the same problem on my 2/300. The valve body moves left and right easily by hand but then gets stiff so I think I'll just solder it in place as @Tony Press has done. Great knowledge here Cheers
@Brian Reynolds Hope all goes to plan, I have not been able to repair mine, I have found other 2/300’s since then, if you have the skill set position it, solder into position will save you some grief. Protect the other soldered parts wet towel or fill with water. Maybe post some pictures when you do it to show others it can be done.
@Darryl Durdin I've cleaned it up where I want the solder to hopefully stick and filled the fount with water but my soldering skills are a bit bodgey but I'll see how it goes. Speaking of bodgey, in the pic is how I got my pricker mechanism out of the valve. I put the wheel screw on and put vice grips on that and then put the screwdriver through and tapped down on it gently and it came out undamaged so that's good Cheers
Here it is, pretty rough, but seems solid. I didn't have a decent soldering iron so I heated up a screwdriver with a blowtorch. The fount has got dings and dents anyway I just want to get it going Cheers
Looks the part, don’t worry about appearance, it all under cover, your lantern will soon come alive, good efforts, adds to your confidence and skills set
