I found this lonely Austramax at a salvage yard today. I will follow in @AussiePete 's footsteps to clean up the hood with vinegar I think.Any tips on cleaning up the Nickel plating welcome. Also now looking for a suitable glass for it. Ray
@MozzoSA I would give the plating a quick once over with a degreaser if it’s really badly covered in fuel residue, or detergent if not; followed by a gentle polish with Autosol. The plating is generally good quality on Austramax, but the bottom plate for the globe is often heat affected. New straight glass is available from TW Sands in Melbourne; Austramax bulge glass is hard to find - but it’s the same as small Coleman bulge glass. Cheers Tony
@MozzoSA They are a great little lantern and it should clean up nicely. It the base plate brass or steel? You can check this with a magnet. If it is steel you need to check the inside of the fount for rust.
Later base plates are stainless steel, but Martin is correct in advising to look out for rust in the steel base plates for the tanks. Tony

@MozzoSA Great find, do you have a bale / handle? Check to see if the needle is intack, Should clean up well. I've used vinegar to clean up tank , burner, generator, meth cup, and frame collar. You can get parts from above metioned. oillamp.com.au.
I've recently bought another Austramax, cheaply, but no glass and the cowl is badly rusted. No matter, I will get it going. It has been run on lamp oil, so everything is heavily carboned up, yea, even into the fount. I'm looking for advice to remove the eccentric shaft without damaging anything. The outlet ( on top of the eccentric housing ) with the eccentric block in it is all carboned up as well and must be cleaned out to allow proper flow. I may have done this before, but have forgotten how. A piece of leather around the brass bush and a pair of pliers ? Jiggle back and forth ? I don't want to take the entire housing off the fount unless absolutely necessary. As an aside, one thing I noticed is that the generator tube has wrinkles in it, and is slightly fatter, so the the securing nut cannot be removed. How the wrinkles got there I don't understand.
@Paul Aslanides The eccentric will pull out but they can be difficult to move. The ones I have removed were a series of Fibre washers and a brass washer. They tend to stick with age. Look at the one in this post Austramax 3/300
