Hello, this was my family's camping lanterns in the 60s-70s. I don't remember where my dad got them from. He's in a long term care center now, so I brought them home with me. I started cleaning them up and realized that they may be older than I thought, as there is some packing news paper from 1945 Germany. I did my best cleaning them up and getting them both fired up. They have some chips in what I guess is porcelain? One lantern has the thumb nuts for the handle missing. They crumbled in my fingers when I went to loosen them, so I wonder if there are replacements? Do people do full restorations on these, or is it best to leave as is? TY
That is one of the best Petromax lantern boxes around. Made for the German Wehrmacht. Mine have a date stamp on the bottom. But the newspaper identifies it too. Very nice set to remember and keep in the family. Original parts are hard to find. I would use a modern glass when using them. The originals are one of a kind, so to say.
Welcome to CPL @Gilles A great piece of family history They're in good condition, I would clean and wax but not repaint. With new seals there is no reason they can't burn bright again. As Wim said, find some replacement glass and keep those ones safe.
I don't know if it matters here but my description or title should be, 827 B/200 HK I looked better at this label.
