Hi all, Anyone else having trouble ordering from Base Camp by phone? Phoned today, went directly to ansaphone but was advised their message bank was full!
I seem to recall an announcement they were closed for holiday sometime Jan/Feb 16 but a check of the web site does not confirm it so I have no idea the origin of that... Easy to imagine their answerphone fills up if they are closed for a few days. They are not globalised yet etc - thank God. See ! My spellchecker wants me to put a z in that word. Where's the hope?
Jon D - yes I, too, thought they were closed for a holiday around now but, as you say - nothing on their website. I'll try again tomorrow.
its about time they invested in a proper e-commerce site so you can just order your bits, pay by paypal and be done, the whole having to ring them is a pain in the arse especially as i usually buy bits in the wee hours once my sons are asleep and i have an hour or two to myself.
I've never had a problem with them. I don't expect 24/7 attention from them - they are a small outfit. I email them, and they respond; and we do business across the globe tidily. Whenever/if ever they close we will have lost both an historic business, and access to valuable material. Tony
In this case "them" is not right. Base camp is Mike The Stove and is a one man operation. Mike is a collector like us and has an interest in the history as well. Just so happens he has invested his time and energy into gathering together lots of spare parts both new and obsolete. How he choses to run the business is his affair and we have to live with that. We just need to be thankful that this parts service is there and at the end of the 'phone there is a guy who understands the lamps and parts he is selling and our difficulties with restoration projects. You just need to understand that as a one man operation sometimes Mike has to go out and do normal things like shopping and now and then that shopping is for parts. I also suspect he takes time out now and then to eat and sleep. So he can't be at the end of the 'phone 24/7 and sometimes he is hard to contact. Not fair to criticise, just be grateful he is there at all. ::Neil::
+1 Mackburner. With all the parts that they have that aren't listed and the cost of e-commerce, that's the last thing we/they need. Plus I've always had great personal service from them.
