I think that we will need a bit more to go on that ! What make or type of lantern ? What happens ? Please be careful if you are unfamiliar with pressure lanterns and the potential faults and failures thereof. I consider myself reasonably knowledgeable regarding Tilley lamps, however some of the experts on here will have knowledge far surpassing mine.
It's in the subject of this topic: Bialaddin 300x. But you are of course correct in all the others. More information is needed.
...Hi Karin and Welcome to CPL.. ....Depending on age and condition there are still a few factors that seem to affect the working of a pressure lamp.... ....Some that are as new might still need a service.... Do you have a photo you are able to post on here of your lamp?... .....Or can you describe it and/or point us towards one that is the same in our Reference Gallery....? The search on here is good for sourcing threads that will hopefully be of use.. Best wishes, PB.
Hi Karin and welcome. Those are very fine lanterns. A good start would be to replace all the seals with a seal kit from The Fettlebox who sponsor this forum. You will also need a new mantle which is available from e.g. base-camp.co.uk. You should rinse out any old paraffin and crud from the fount and make sure the burner and air tubes are clean inside. Once you have done those things you could do a test burn before fitting the new mantle. I'm sure the other chaps here will be able to fill in some steps I may have left out. Happy fettling!
Hi! Check tank for leaks - clean tank inside with gunk (or similar) and watch for any drips from the base of the tank while it soaks. 300X tanks can have stress fractures that you don't want to find when pumping up the tank to light it! Replace all seals that you can get to. Get a LARGE flat bladed screwdriver in case you need to unscrew the valve at the bottom of the pump tube. You may need to replace the vapouriser.
If that's Ferryhill, County Durham where you live, there are several of us around here with spare parts and expertise. I'm a few miles up the A1M / A167 if that's any help...
hey guys sorry for the really late reply i managed to get it working after some tinkering and disassembly. i found a leak and took the gasket and covered it in silicone grease. after resembling it it worked perfectly.. and has done since.
