This may sound a bit of a silly question, but looking at the recently restored Bialaddin300X and my Bialaddin 315, on the 300X the burner buttons are hexagonal where as on other models and table lamps they are round.
Is this the only difference, i could check by removing the hoods, but i dont want to risk breaking the mantles.
And would a more modern upper burner with the round air buttons work on a 300X

Try removing just one button, but do it carefully. You may well get your answer. I would imagine them both to have the same threads anyway.

They do indeed have the same threads and appear to be interchangeable.

They can take some shifting and I will confess to having broken one in my early fettling days. :rage: Since then I have learned to heat and quench them a couple of times. That will free them up.

Many thanks John and sidders i expected the upper burner to work on all the lanterns,
Which is handy to know as the burner on the 300x is not in the greates of conditions, but works fine when it needs replacing some time in its life i can use any burner but keep the 300X hexaganol butons to keep the lamp original

The nice thing about Vapalux is they designed that burner in 1940 and never changed it so a WW2 Vapalux has the same burner as a 1990s M320. Same burner was used in all the lanterns and table lamps. The only thing that ever changes is the locating buttons or nuts. As the other significant bits like pumps and vaporisers are also unchanged it makes fettling an old one a simple job of slipping in new parts which are the right parts. ::Neil::

Hi neil thank you for thge valueble info, which is realy good news.
as all one will need to do, when changing a upper burner,on a older or rare lamp is to keep the buttons from the old burner, if they are different to the new burner to keep it all orioginal

Stanton Bates was a smart engineer. The burner design was good and he never "improved" it. ::Neil::
