Hi all. First post! Soooo.... I've got a BR 49 with the pre-heater. It needs a bit of work, new washers etc. does anyone have any info as to the spare parts (washers etc) required for this model. Also, how is this lamp lit properly... Do I just allow some paraffin to fill the preheater, then use this like it was a butterfly, or is there some other process? Thanks, Jim.
Hello and welcome aboard Jim! In my opinion those paraffin pre heaters are a waste of time, a meths torch is a much faster and reliable way to pre heat a lantern. New washers for Tilleys are available via this website, check out the link below, Jeff. http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/
Jeff, thanks for the advice and the link... I nearly burnt (what's left of) my hair off when I tried the in-built pre-heater. Took a swig o' meths and then lit it the 'proper' way!
They do work but are fiddly things and as Jeff says slower. The main advantage was they enabled a single fuel to be used which for a big user company such as the railways saved a deal of cash on buying and storing meths. ::Neil::
