Burner nozzle shortage.

One of my lanterns ceramic burner nozzle is not what it should be. In fact it’s in small little pieces... and as I understand it the nozzles to the 200cp Pmax lanterns are almost impossible to find. At least I haven’t been able to find any...
So, would it work with a stainless steel one if I’ll have one machined out?

Yes, you can machine out a piece from stainless steel.
Do you still have all the pieces of the original 200cp ceramic burner?

 

You can still buy a complete inner hood with ceramic burner cap from fogas.se and there are 250cp alumina nozzles available from Korea on ebay. Not cheap, though.

 

Nope. No pieces left I’m afraid. But I have a nozzle on one of my other lanterns to use as a template. So no issues with using stainless steel then? Swelling/shrinking..

 

The nozzle will spend many hours glowing yellow hot. If it is made of metal, a lot of the heat will be conducted to the mixing tube. Not sure that is the optimal situation.

Hmmm...you’re probably right.

 

Could you rather make a mixing chamber or adapter to convert to a 350-500cp nozzle? These are common and cheaper. Alternatively a Coleman style brass+mesh cap.

 

Adapter? Tell me more! To be honest I don’t really know what differs the 200 nozz from the 300s...

What's the diameter of the thread you screw into lamp...

I don’t know really....I could measure the nozzle I got in my other lantern when I get back home.

 

I've a load with the thread size about .700"

If making one out of stainless steel is easy for you, trying that out wouldn't do much harm till you could find a spare. Would be rather tedious to drill all the tiny burner holes uniformly.
Coeffient of expansion differs from the brass mixing chamber but you could use some copper antiseize to prevent the burner loosening or dropping off.
Not too certain if the thread size for the 200/250cp is 5/8" BSP, but close to that at least.

Ended up ordering a couple of nozzles from Korea...looks solid.
Will try to fire up my mysterious lantern this weekend!

 

Yeah, those are hard, white alumina burner nozzles. Does the thread fit in?

Yes threads fitted nicely. Just had her lit up, needs some fine tuning still though, nozzle works like a charm!

 

Your "mysterious" lantern looks to be an Optimus. A nicely proportioned lantern, as mentioned previously Fogas carry innumerable parts for these.

Yes, it sure looks like an Optimus. No inskriptions, stamps or anything on it though.
Fogas are great, ordered quite a bit from them already. Unfortunately they didn’t have the nozzle so I had to get a couple from Korea (eBay)...

 

What's the thread size on the 250cp burner nozzles? Is it anything like 5/8"BSP?

Outside diameter of the nozzle threads is ~21mm if I remember correctly. Sorry to say I have no idea about the pitch of the threads.

According to my thread gauge, the pitch is 14G i.e. 7/16 BSP.
