Hi all, Here's an unmarked table lamp most likely manufactured by Windhorst & Co. ( St. Louis) or Sun Gas Lamp Co (Kansas City/St. Louis). It has the same horizontal outside cowl type of burner, seen on other table lamps from Windhorst and Sun Gas. This lamp came to me in a good restorable condition. A dent to the font, but otherwise in a good, sort of oxidized japanned finish. This type of burner is very well made and reliable and after a long pre heating (all these old timer lamps need a lot of pre heating), she fired up nicely. Is said to give 500 CP and enough to give a light making it hard to reproduce on a photo. Below you find a list of "facts" of which may indicate which would be the most probable manufacturer of this lamp. That doesn't mean there couldn't be other variables taking into consideration, when determine a plausible manufacturer for this lamp. - Of all lamps surfaced with this type of burner only one is marked; the Windhorst lamp in my collection with the Windhorst name stamped on the pressure gauge casing. - The only known paperwork where you can see this type of burner is the 1911 Windhorst & Co. catalogue Nr. 12 " Primo Lights" . - The fuel filler/pump valve plug is identical with what is present on the Windhorst Primo Arc lamps. Very special L-shaped pressure release handle on the plug - The swan necks of my Windhorst lamp and this lamp are identical. The Sun Gas lamp has a longer and different shaped swan neck. - The Windhorst lamp and this lamp have identical hanger hooks. The Sun Gas lamps has a very special type of hanger for several positions. - The Windhorst lamp and this lamp have identical burner head cowls with three screws for holding the shade. The Sun Gas lamp has a spring clip type of shade holder. - This lamp has a font identical or very similar to the font found on the Sun Gas Lamp Co. No.1 General Utility Lamp I have made a composite image of the similarities of the lamps in question seen in the post..... /Conny …..and the before images.....
Thanks Guys, Yes, that "japanned" finish is very nice looking and was used in the very early Arc type lamps as well of the gravity fed dittos, in the first decade of the 1900,s . /Conny
