Here's some photo's of what I believe to be the elusive Kayen CL8. There are certainly quite a few differences between this lamp and any FL6's that I have in my collection the most noticable being no Tilley markings whatsoever, as well as differences in the construction of the lamp itself. You will notice there is no pressure indicator as well as no fuel level which is characteristic of all Kayen lamps. I have examined the paper advert that Anthony posted and in my opinion this seems to be the real deal. Any comments as to why it is'nt would be greatly appreciated. Astro.
If I remember right Kayen is Just post WW2 and anyway after 1940 and for that date the pump is certainly not Tilley. Other bits just don't look quite right either so I guess it has to be a Kayen. Nice find because I don't think I know of more than another one. ::Neil::
Well done Astroboy. If your taking more pics could you also get the folded seem around the front cover. Was wondering if it is flat like the Kayen reflectors. I see the mixing tube does not have a ring around it. Seems Kayen to me. How tall is the mixing tube? If I appear to be a bit over excited, well I am.
The thing is Anthony I picked up 2 of these lamps one was fully restored and the other was the one i have shown you today. They were both on ebay and on closer inspection I could tell they weren't Tilleys. There was no bids on the restored lamp and I knew at the price he was asking it would'nt sell, so i made an offer on both lamps and the guy accepted. here's the link to the fully restored one. Is this the type of lamp Handi-Albert drove the breadth of Australia to collect? Having said that, I seem to recall at the time he described it as a Kayen FL6. This was pre-CPL so I guess it must be on CCS somewhere (or maybe, BBL)...
Well spotted my vote is Kayen. No pressure indicator, or fuel level gauge, small bore pump,no names on pump or glass. Now is it Nettlefold or Kopsen ??
The only clue I can see on the question of Kopsen or Nettlefold is the pump knob looks Kopsen. I assume the pump is the standard diameter, wondering about the length. Looks like a solder line on the top of the bottom ring, does that make it a 3 piece tank? I would expect you would see a solder line inside the tank if it were 3 piece.
