The lamp was found here in Australia. The control valve is not original, it is an Amish modification sold and used by Leacock. I have seen them on two other 159X lanterns. The 159X was designed to use either kerosene or Coleman Fuel. This version has a removable red air restrictor on the lower opening of the air tube, which is only used when burning Coleman Fuel. It was to be removed and a pre heating cup fitted to run on kerosene. This 159X does not have a preheat cup. My Air restrictor measures 15.08mm (19/32”) Outside Diameter and 6.72mm (17/64”) High. The air hole measures 7.08mm (0.278”) Diameter. The thread is Unified National Special (UNS) 1/2” x 27 TPI The thread on the intake of the air tube (1/2” 27tpi) measure 11.1mm (7/16”). The thread below the valve that the air restrictor screws onto measures 4.5mm 11/64”. As well as the screw on air restrictor there is a restriction in the tube below the mixing chamber. It can be seen in photo #16 and the dimple securing it can be seen in photo #6. The lamp came with the 159 X-3382 globe holder and modern 1161 globe. At some point prior to me owning it the threads securing the air tube to the mixing chamber were badly damaged. i had to cut the section off and manufacture a replacement section which was brazed into place. The thread is ½” – 27 TPI UNS. The original paint had been removed prior to me owning it. I painted it with “Classic Cream” epoxy enamel, but I haven’t added the gold highlights. The filler cap had been modified, a compressor fitting had been installed in the original. I replaced the cap with an appropriate one from spares. The lamp isn’t fitted with a finial. Instead, it is fitted with a long steel rod designed to hang the lamp from a ceiling hook. replacement section which was brazed into place restriction in the tube As Found @Sedgman
Nice work, @ROBBO55. How was the fount underneath? There are quite a few Australian “modifications” on 159 and similar style Coleman lamps found in Australia. Where did you see the lamps with the Leacock control cock. In Australia? Tony
