Good Morning, Busy with a pair of abused 237's. Both valve assemblies were pretty gummed up the founts were rusted badly. A few days of cleaning the rust has been removed from the inside of the founts and the varnish mostly removed from the valve assemblies. All parts are moving freely but the one eccentric block moves a lot more than the other. I have not measured yet but how much movement should there be? Also do i try and find a tank sealer to do the inside of the tank? None of the sealers frequently mentioned on the forum seems readily available here. Or do i have the founts re nickled as the finish is very rough and has brass showing through in places.
Last night decided not to fettle this lamp any more but just clean up as best as possible. Checked the movement of the pricker using a loupe as i cannot see small items that close. The pricker wire poked through the jet and retracted fully. Assembled, leak tested, heated twice, fired up with no mantle to check burn. not perfect but good enough to try with a mantle. Here she is burning quite brightly. I might return to this lamp in the future. The twin is another matter though.
Great going AHG!!! Looks beautiful. I recently fettled a 237B that I got at a VW swap/camp out/car show. It was five US dollars but needed a globe and generator and bail! Anyway it's a monster! Can't believe how bright it is.
I see in ZA that people use "plastisol" for lining petrol/diesel tanks. Might be worth looking into ? Fuel tank de-rusting and repair - Radiator King
