Hello all, I recently bought some old lanterns at a flea market and have now started to work with them.I'm new at this so I thought I better ask you guys as I go along. Last week I picked up a Coleman 202 in great shape but it won't light. After pumping I open the valve and all I get is a slight gargling sound from under the collar.I also get a bit of fuel leaking out below the collar. Any thoughts? Thanks, Doug
Great find! I would suggest a good clean and then think about a rebuild. It sounds like either the fuel & air pickup tube is slightly clogged or you need a new generator. Bear in mind, it could just be that it needs time to clear a little and it may just start right up. Coleman lanterns are pretty straight forward and usually require only a little work. Are you getting a stream of fuel from the generator when you open the valve? Make sure you find where that "leak out below the collar is coming from. You are dealing with gasoline, not kerosene. Good luck.
