When K-1 kerosene crackles in my kosmos #6 lamp I thinking it's trying to tell me something... It's time to go!!! How old? Well, I'm not exactly sure but I think I bulked up in 2008 before a big winter storm. At one time I had about 30 gallons that I've been inching through. The stock of fuel was kept capped in HDPE fuel containers in an area w/ relatively even climate control. The fuel was purchased from a reputable retainer, bulk pump K-1 water clear fuel and I suspect that the extended storage has just allowed it to absorb moisture. Louisville is the Northernmost Southern city w/ high summer humidity. It's just absorbed moisture over time I suspect, that and I've far exceeded the typical shelf life for "fresh fuel". I'm going to run all the old stock through my garage Torpedo heater. It's not too picky.
Diesel Tank Snake We use these in the fuel tanks of our stand by generators and pumps that sit within a stones throw of the ocean, they see rain, salt spray, fog and and rapidly changing temperatures. Since we added the desicant snakes problems with moisture have almost disappeared, I plan on purchasing a 55gal drum of k-1 and will be putting one in to store it.
Interesting, I'll have to check into that. I can see how something like that would be very helpful for long term storage or to ensure diesel engine/injector longevity.
