Hi all, a long while ago I bought an electrocuted Ditmar Maximette 581 which I wanted to use as a spare parts donor. It missed the Vaporizer, inner hood and burner and the pump rod. The pricker wheel was broken in parts. However, my last experiments with the for which I have used a new J-tube and burner encouraged me to another experiment. I went to a machine workshop to get a new petrol/gasoline vaporizer. Here are the results: The above pictures show the vaporizer and a new Petromax 150HK inner hood mounted, but still without the aluminium gasket in the lower part of the vaporizer. Therefore the jet sits still a bit low. The above pictures show the vaporizer, which accepts a new Petromax jet for 150HK. So no further problems to get spare jets The first test run looks promising , but the mixture seems to be a bit rich. If nothing helps I will use it as an alcohol burner, so bigger jets are easily available and a lack of air will be compensated.
...even nicer now that it is complete, I also found the reason why it was not working properly. Still there were some leakages at the jet and the vaporizer seal. Now that it's fixed it runs properly on Aspen4. It can hardly be seen that it has a "homebrew vaporizer" and uses a today's Chinese inner chimney, burner, jet and needle (Petromax 150HK type). Now it would even be possible to use it as a "workhorse" because the critical spares (jet & needle) are easy to get and replace. Yes, I plan to order another one for a small incomplete Ditmar that I've acquired recently. But that will take a few months (possibly mid summer) until I come to this project. If you would still be interested in it please PM me your mail and address.
And how to install the hk150 needle in the vaporizer? use the petromax hk150 carburettor rod? This one could fit the ditmar 581? Carburettor Rod HK150 - Petromax Thank you!
The rod has to be adapted DIY, but that is not a big issue. You can't use the the middle and lower piece of the HK150 rod and have to cut the upper piece to the correct length. Following you need to tap a small thread at its lower end which will fit the (hopefully still existing) excenter piece of the Ditmar lantern. Unfortunately I don't remember the thread size exactly any more, but it should be something around M2.0.
Can I just tap the thread of HK150 jet which fit the original vaporizer? And replace the HK150 upper rod and needle on the ditmar 581. Is it work?
Off coarse you can but nobody knows your skills. Also you only have one change to make or break the original vaporizer.
I personally would not recommend to do that. The original thread is smaller and there may not be enough material left for the M7x1 HK150 jet thread... And there's another drawback: with the HK150 Jet it will only run on petrol/white gas, since the design is not adapted for the larger jet orifice diameter.

Hi, is the 523 vaporizer's thread same as 581? I may get a 523 and 593. I am not sure whether these vaporizer's thread same as 581.
All of these small lanterns use the same thread at the bottom. However, they use different vaporizers for petrol and paraffin. And there were even different versions for the petrol vaporizers and jets over time.
Yes. However, if the original inner chimneys are still present it could be necessary to enlarge the hole where the jet is sticking through. And the new PX 150HK jets would only allow to burn petrol/gasoline/Coleman fuel (not paraffin/kerosene) because of the larger size of the orifice.
So if I replace the original parts with the DIY vaporizers, 150HK DIY rod, 150HK jet and 150HK needle, 523 and 593 are also working as well as 581? thank you.
Hi Kit, you should extract the graphite gasket from the valve, try with some heat and also try with some pliers... it will probably break, so you should replace it afterward. Once removed you will be able to extract the valve shaft and rod.
