Initial photo of a lamp that has come into my possession, very dusty and in need of some work. It is engraved "ORIGINAL EYE BRAND" on the fount. The control knob and pressure gauge are also marked. It arrived with a white reflector hood and 3 Butterfly 300-400cp mantles, shame the glass is missing More pictures to be added as cleaning and fettle progresses.
It should clean up OK. Looks like the reflector has caught most of the dust and protected the rest of the lantern. Good luck with the fettle Martin

After nearly a year The lamp in clean and ready to test. Seems they wanted to make sure their name was visible
Looking good so far, @KAB For less heat absorbtion and better light reflection it would be a good thing to wire brush and paint that rusty steel frame base plate. I'm quite curious to see how this one performs.
Excellent. This Eye brand lantern looks EXACTLY like the Butterfly lanterns that i've seen, except for the EYE brand stamping. Almost every part is the same. Used to have lots of them around here....well, years ago.
I've just acquired an Eye Brand lantern with some chrome damage. It is my first Chinese lantern with brass construction. The only parts that were steel was the collar securing plate and the pre-heating cup. Both had become very rusty so I replaced them with a generic brass cup and the securing plate from an Anchor. Once difference is that mine has no pre-heater torch. They seem quite well made as far as I can judge.
I do like the classic lines of this lantern and with the shade it’s quire attractive and I’m looking forward to seeing how it runs. Cheers Pete
If its not leaking and properly fettled/tuned, it should light up as nicely as a Petromax of similar rating. There's basically no difference(in my opinion) in terms of light output between the Petromax and many of those well-made clones.
