I recently acquired a 1975 Coleman 275 in good condition. The control valve is frozen in the 11 o'clock position (open) and I was wondering the best way to free it up without forcing it and damaging something. Has anyone run into this problem and how did you solve it? Thanks, Burns
Have you removed the generator? The generator may be coked up with carbon and freezing movement of the knob. If it's still frozen with the generator removed apply heat with a hair dryer for 5 or so minutes to the valve assembly and try it again. You may have to do it several times.
Thanks for the reply. I haven't delved into it yet, probably this afternoon. However the valve is stuck in the "On" position, so I suspect the eccentric block will be lowered which will probably make removal of the generator difficult. Won't know til I try though. But judging from all the soot on the glass and inside the vent I am willing to bet the generator is the problem.
I finally got the valve loose, generator was actually bent, so somebody forced it in the past. No worries though as I have a spare. Everything was gunked up, managed to get it all cleared out. The fount was in surprisingly good shape, no internal rust at all. Waiting on a few parts from OCP, then will reassemble. Thanks for the help! Burns
