Yes, Bengals have beautiful markings, but most of Kimi's marking are that of a Tabby with a few tell tale signs that he is a cross breed. Other than that he has all of the Bengal personality traits. He does seem to have only bonded with me, other people are just a curiosity whose bags are to rifled through for treasure! My cat Mishka, who I lost last year, not this year, was a lot like your Siamese, not quite as big at 6KG, but a really good hunter, he would bring back adult rabbits, pigeons, magpies and the odd bat. He was a hybrid between a fairly pure Scottish Wildcat and a domestic cat, my vet is part of the programme that is identifying the genetic markers and coat markings of Wildcats so they can breed an undiluted population. Mishka had been dumped in the Highlands by his previous owners (I can't believe people can be so cruel) and spent a couple of years being fed by a woman in a remote farm cottage, but could only be caught after he was injured by a car. An organisation that takes in cats took him after that and much to the disappointment of my vet, gave him the snip, she had his DNA tested and would have liked to have bred from him. God, I really miss the bugger! When I brought Kimi to her, she remarked 'where do you find them!' referring to having brought her three unusual cats now. The first was a big, pure white cat with one green eye and one blue eye and perfect hearing. At night one of his eyes glowed red and the the other green, very eerie! The second being Mishka. Pals. Whisper the Abyssinian cross went on to 23yrs, Mutch the Chihuahua 12yrs (lifelong heart problem), and Pippin, succumbed to Cushings disease just over a week ago at 14yrs. Replaced (well, that's not the correct word) by Tidge, a 12yr old rescue dog:
I am sadly cat less now but until maybe 8 years ago there was always at least one rodent control officer here. Best of them was Bonzo. Named by my daughter he was a ginger tom with murder in his heart. Weighed about 25 Lbs so a big strong beast and a magnificent hunter. I have seen him sit on the flat roof of my outbuildings and take birds in flight with a mighty standing leap. For 9 years he kept all the wildlife such as rabits and rats at bay. He also had a wicked sense of humour. Next door had three big dogs, all mongrels but labrador sized. Bonzo would sit on a retaing wall and bait these dogs to a frenzy and then jump down and run across the front of the two houses with three dogs in hot pursuit. He would then stop about half way and turn on them standing on his hind legs he would give them both paws across a couple of noses and send these beats howling back home. Having established yet again how stupid canines are he would then casually walk home. He never dragged anything into the house. No chance he was going to offer to share with me, if he caught it that was lunch and eaten right away. Good at as well because we never had to feed him. When we first had him he got fat and the vet said he was hunting so stop feeding unless he looks thin which he never did. Like all my cats he died on the road. He had been shot and had two pellets in his spine which paralysed his backlegs and then got taken out by a car trying to return here. Had a few since then but he was the best of them. I would love to get another but my daughter told me it was not fair because of them all eventually losing arguments with cars. ::Neil::
Derek, 23 years is bloody good age for Whisper to have reached. I'm sorry to hear about you losing Pippin so recently, it's always hard as they are no different to any other member of the family IMHO. Good on you for taking in a rescue. Kimi was my first kitten, every cat I've had since I was a child has been a rescue. Mackburner, Bonzo sounds like he was a really fine beast. Lost Mishka to the road, but it wasn't an accident, some people are just bastards...
There is a saying: A house wihtout a cat is a house. A house with a cat is a home. They really get under your skin those small creatures, not just cats but also mans best friend, the dog. HD - you were absolutely right. The mods did show up I have a ginger too Christer - our oldest - we had him for 14 years and got him from the vet for free. How old he was then - nobody knows. I expected you to have a swedish forestcat Christer Here you can see a norwegian forestcat "Fedberg" "Fathill". He likes fishing and drinking in a hot summerday, carrying such a fur. A cool cat you got there Claus. Mine is actually also a Norwegian forest cat. Or atleast a semi-Norwegian... His mother was a pedigree forest cat, and he has inherited the forest cats delight in climbing trees, and he also went down with the head first; a speciality for this race. Waiting for the bird:
Absolutely beautiful cat Christer. The Norwegian Forest Cat looks good as a short hair. Kimi does the same up head first and down head first, but bengals are initially bred from Asian Leopard Cats which are tree dwellers. They also swim and have webbed front paws as their main prey is fish. Kimi has webbed feet and loves to join me in the bath or the shower... Doesn't like the rain though When he was a kitten and I had to give him his first bath, he refused to get out of the washing up bowl once I had finished washing him.
Yeah, Bengals are really strange cats and even though Kimi is not a pure breed, he is just as strange.
I don't know if one of my cats is plain stupid or really likes the rain, but she just does not want to seek cover in the rain. Hail maybe, rain no. Even if it's a real downpour she just sits there getting as wet as a wet mop. Weird cat . Best regards, Wim
