So while I am out of the country I have promoted my wife to deputy lamphunter. I found a local ad for a lamp with cracked glass. Pics show it is a Radius 119. Price was 10 euro reduced from 150. My wife called and it was still available. She asked about the price and the 10 euro was confirmed. The seller put the higher price in as a joke. Anyway, he agreed to sell and has hung it outside on his fence waiting for my wife to pick up. She can put some money in the letterbox, or then again just not bother. The 'seller' is not fussed either way. So, I have to ask myself are the lamp collectors the strange people or is it the rest of them. Anyone else have a weird lamp story? Will post some pics tomorrow
I once saw a Tilley 246 from the 50s, hanging on the eaves of a barn. I am afraid of heights. but I stepped up. lol.
Story gets even more bizarre. Wife attends clandestine meeting like an old cold war spy drop. Lantern was in a large rubbish bin. She took it out dropped in the 10 euro note and then chased away by barking dogs.
Lamp safe at home now. Looks like tge seller threw in another old piece of tat for free. Glass broken but otherwise intact. Now to get in touch with Connie for some spare parts. I am assuming this old girl is from the 1930s. Plan is to spruce her up as a present to my old Dad. He turns 80 this year. Same age as the lamp. Maybe make a nice wooden box and get an engraving done on the bottom. Not due home until April so all will have to wait on results. Are any other members interested in old Radius lamps. Saw 4 or 5 for sale in an old shed last week.
That looks like a nice old Radius 119. It should be from somewhere between 1934 and 1937. Pity about the glass being broken as it is the original glass. Could still be good as a display item. It depends on what Radius lamps there are and the condition. And the price of course.
